The 40th Annual Hike for Hunger was held on May 17th. The purpose of this HIKE is to bridge the meal gap for those who do not have enough food to eat. Thanks to the Gesu Community for collecting $6000.00.
Donations will go to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Gesu Food Fund, Honduran Mission and area Food Pantries.
Student Council reps were the MC’s for the Assembly. Members from St. Helen’s Drill Team performed for us at the Assembly. Our very own graduating 8th grader Henry Brady did his maneuvers on his own unicycle as well. Thank you to Matt Jaffe of Cedar Lee Bikes for bringing his modern version of a Boneshaker.
Special thanks to the PTO for the delicious popsicles and fun balloons! Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Watson for help setting up the Hike Decorations. Thank you to Mr. Bodziony, aka, the Dinosaur for his help with the technology and directing us on the walk. Thank you to the teachers that were part of the Wheel Race. Congrats to Miss Patton who won the Race! Thank you to the parent volunteers that walked with our classes. Thank you to Bryan Barrett and the University Heights Police that kept us safe along the route. Thank you to Fr. Vincent, SJ for sharing info about the Hike at the Sunday Masses.
At the end of the Assembly, as we were being released from the Family Center, Fr. Laniauskas, SJ, gave us a final blessing and shared a special prayer. He reminded us how lucky we are to have food. He said that he was proud of us for serving others in need. The Gesu Family is proud to engage in the Corporal Work of Mercy: Feeding the Hungry.
